MDC 4 Pin Aluminum Pad Installation Instructions
To remove or replace the MDC low-profile, high traction aluminum treads, use a 3mm hex head wrench as provided with
all of our aluminum replacement treads, using our 4 pressure pin design. Your treads are also set in place with a
silicone adhesive. You will need to hammer the treads away from the stirrup using a plastic or rubber hammer as the
silicone has produced a tight seal. If you use a metal hammer, you must protect the soft aluminum material with a
towel. Strike the treads firmly to release the silicone seal. If the tread remains in place, strike the tread with more
force.
We want your treads to be secure and tight. Remove the tread and apply a bead of waterproof, 100% outdoor silicone
to the underside of the pads to the left and right of the four rails where the four pressure pins attach. Put the treads
back in place, ensuring that the four threaded holes align with the half holes in the center support rail. Wipe off any
residual silicone with a Q tip, towel or small tool and let the silicone dry. Use a drop of Loctite Blue 243 thread locker and
hand tighten the four pins so they remain secure. This should ensure a secure fit with no tread movement. Please be
sure to remove any excess silicone and Loctite while they are still wet and before they harden. It is absolutely required to use both adhesives as per the instructions to safely secure your treads in place.
A recommended silicone product available in the USA is GE, Premium 100% Waterproof Clear Silicone II.
ALWAYS CHECK THE TIGHTNESS OF THE PINS FOR A SECURE ATTACHMENT FOR YOUR SAFETY.
